'Argentine Tango' is an improvised couple dance. It originates from the working class areas of Buenos Aires (Argentina) and Montevideo (Uruguay) at the late 19th century. The tango music is heavily influenced and enriched by the immigrants arriving from Europe and Africa to Argentina over the years.
Despite the humble roots and the troubled history of its mother country, tango has been increasingly popular around the globe in recent years. The diversity of the tango music and dancing movements captures the hearts of many people. The sole objective of our society is to promote Argentine Tango at Strathclyde University and in the city of Glasgow. We welcome both students and members of general public to our events.
There is a famous saying in tango: You have to 'slow' in order to be quick. Learning the basic techniques at the initial phase often make people feel slightly frustrated. However, once you have mastered the fundamentals of tango, it's very quick to get addicted to it.
